Family-owned Biggerstaff Furniture going out of business after 78 years

Fourth-generation retailer has begun final liquidation

GASTONIA, N.C. (June 4, 2026) — Family-owned Biggerstaff Furniture will close its doors permanently after almost 80 years of furnishing homes throughout Gaston County and surrounding communities. The final sale is open to the public with once-in-a-lifetime prices, and all inventory must be sold.

Third-generation owner Ray Biggerstaff announced his retirement and plans to close the 78-year-old company, marking the end of an era for the Biggerstaff family.

“It has been a privilege to serve multiple generations of families,” said Biggerstaff. “We are incredibly thankful for the support, friendships and memories that have defined our journey, and we will always cherish the relationships built along the way.”

Biggerstaff Furniture was founded in 1948 by Raymond Biggerstaff, grandfather of current owner, Ray. The store originally opened on Franklin Boulevard just 300 yards from its current location. Over the years, ownership passed from Raymond to his son, Bob, and later to grandsons Ray and Robert. In 2008, Robert's son, Bobby, joined the business, representing the fourth generation of the Biggerstaff family.

Twelve years later, the company relocated to its current 15,000-square-foot showroom, which was once a church building. Throughout nearly eight decades in business, the Biggerstaffs have maintained their unwavering commitment to friendly service and customer satisfaction.

Biggerstaff Furniture’s liquidation sale is underway at 1701 W Franklin Blvd., a half mile from Caromont Health Park. During the final sale, deep discounts will be offered on quality furniture for every room in the home including living room and dining sets, mattresses, and accessories. Famous name brands include American Drew, Bassett, Bradington-Young, Catnapper, Craftmaster, Hooker, Kincaid, Liberty, Sealy, Sherwood and Vaughan-Bassett.
